Swapped my Prado's battery and now the throttle feels weird - loganhughes - 03-31-2026

So I did what I thought was a simple job last weekend, my 2017 Prado's battery finally gave up after four years so I grabbed a replacement from the shop and swapped it out myself. Easy enough right? Well now the car starts fine but the throttle response feels completely different, it's almost like it's hesitating when I first touch the gas pedal and the idle feels a bit rough compared to before. I did some reading online and apparently with a lot of Toyotas when you disconnect the battery the ECU loses its learned adaptations and basically goes back to factory default settings, so it has to relearn things like idle air flow and throttle position over time. The thing is I've driven it for a few days now and it still hasn't smoothed out like it used to, I'm wondering if maybe there's a proper way to do the relearn procedure or if something else is going on here. I've been looking into getting someone who actually knows how to handle the computer side of things, I found a shop offering toyota ecu programming services in abu dhabi and it seems like they might be able to properly reset and calibrate everything the right way instead of me just hoping the car figures it out on its own. Has anyone else run into this after a battery change, and did you need to get the ECU looked at or did it eventually sort itself out after a while?
