Cutting it close before a flight battery died near the airport, what are my options - Codysutton - 04-02-2026

Okay so I need to vent a little but also genuinely want advice for the future because this situation stressed me out more than it probably should have. I was dropping a family member off at Sharjah airport a few weeks ago, said my goodbyes, walked back to the car, turned the key and absolutely nothing happened. Not even a click. The car had been sitting in the short stay area for maybe 45 minutes and that was apparently enough to finish off a battery that was already on its last legs. I had no jumper cables, didn't know anyone nearby, and was kind of just standing there feeling a bit helpless. Eventually I looked up car battery replacement sharjah airport area on my phone because I figured if there was anywhere in the city that might have a mobile service ready to respond it would be near a busy spot like that, and I actually found a mobile team that came out relatively quickly and sorted it without me needing a tow or anything dramatic. They even showed me the battery test reading so I could see exactly how far gone it was which I appreciated. Whole thing was sorted in under an hour. But my question is whether anyone keeps a portable jump starter in their car regularly because I feel like that would have at least bought me some time and I'm wondering if it's worth investing in one just to have as a backup.
