Are used 458s actually holding up in this heat or am I dreaming?
#1
I've been quietly watching the market for a 2014 458 Italia for months now and there's a Grigio Titanio one at a well known showroom on Sheikh Zayed Road that's been tempting me every time I drive past but the thought of owning a ten year old Ferrari in Dubai without knowing exactly what I'm getting into makes my palms sweat a little. A friend of a friend picked up a California a while back and within three months the DCT actuators started acting up and the repair bill was basically the price of a nice used Golf R so that story lives rent free in my head now. The dealer says it's just had a major service and the belts were done but I'm way more concerned about the stuff that doesn't show up on a standard service sheet like whether the front lift system is leaking fluid or if the exhaust bypass valve is seized from years of heat cycles. I came across some outfit online that handles Ferrari Pre Purchase Inspection Dubai and they apparently go as far as checking the clutch wear percentage and reading the ECU for any over rev history which is pretty much essential on these cars given how some people drive them around here. I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth the extra step because honestly the idea of cruising down Jumeirah Beach Road in that thing sounds like a dream but waking up to a dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree sounds like a nightmare I'd rather avoid.
