Il dott. Sagan e i suoi collaboratori hanno assemblato 115 immagini e una varietà di suoni naturali, come quelli prodotti da onde, vento e tuoni, uccelli, balene e altri animali.
A questo hanno aggiunto selezioni musicali di diverse culture ed epoche, saluti da persone della Terra in cinquantacinque lingue e messaggi stampati dal presidente Carter e dal segretario generale delle Nazioni Unite Waldheim.

What would we want to tell them about our planet and the creatures on it ?
And how we could communicate those messages with our galactic neighbors ?
The contents of the record were selected for NASA by a committee chaired by Carl Sagan of Cornell University, USA.
115 images + music + sounds + words (spoken greetings) in 55 languages
Dr. Sagan and his associates assembled 115 images and a variety of natural sounds, such as those made by surf, wind and thunder, birds, whales, and other animals.
To this they added musical selections from different cultures and eras, and spoken greetings from Earth-people in fifty-five languages, and printed messages from President Carter and U.N. Secretary General Waldheim.
